Celebrating Veterans Day with a 5k

“Disclaimer: I’m promoting the DAV5k Tulsa as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!”

With Veterans Day coming up in a few short weeks (Nov 11th), what better way to honor them by running and raising money for them. The Disabled American Veterans organization, a nonprofit that helps >1 million veterans in life-changing ways each year, puts on a 5k called the DAV5k in six different cities throughout the country.

The DAV5k is put on as a way to honor veterans and thank those who served, while also raising awareness of the issues our ill and injured veterans face each day. What is really cool about this race (aside from the fact that this race is for a good cause) is that in addition to the usual run/walk option, veterans and service members will also have the option to participate in 3 other ways (listed in bold below).

How to Participate:

Run or walk – This is a timed event and the top 3 finishers in each age group (both male and female) will receive a medal.

Handcycle (Veterans and Service Members) – The Handcycle Honor Roll will start before the run/walk and participants will be able to complete the full race course.

Wheelchair (Veterans and Service Members) – The Wheelchair Honor Roll will start after the run/walk and veterans may participate using wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

Motorcycle – The Motorocycle Honor ride is open to everyone and will consists of a motorcycle group ride that will roll past the runners and walkers at the start line. At the finish line, they’ll be rallying to cheer on the runners and walkers.

Virtual – If you can’t be in Tulsa on Nov 4th and would still want to participate, you can still register online as a virtual participant and run the 5k whenever you can. After the race has occurred, DAV will send you a race shirt and bib so you can go out and race too!

If you’re interested in participating, you can use the code “SAVE5” to save $5 off your registration. If you’re a veteran, there are also options listed on the website where it’s free to participate.
